Australia’s Chris Lynn and Adam Zampa have starred in a seven-wicket win for the Guyana Amazon Warriors over the Jamaica Tallawahs in a low-scoring Caribbean Premier League affair.

Sent in to bat on a slow Guyana track that offered plenty to the spinners, the Tallawahs were all out for 100 in 18 overs, with Rovman Powell (38 off 42) and Shakib Al Hasan (25 off 23) the only batsmen to pass 20.

Guyana put Jamaica on the backfoot from the very first over, with Chris Gayle out for a golden duck to Sohail Tanvir (2-11 off three overs).

Kumar Sangakkara (9 off 11) and Chadwick Walton (12 off 16) then perished in the space of two balls from left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul – with the former caught spectacularly in the deep – to leave Jamaica at 3-24 in the fifth over.

Powell and Hasan then went about rebuilding the innings, putting on a 51-run partnership, before the latter was caught in the deep off Permaul (3-20 off four) to leave Tallawahs at 4-75 in the 13th over.

Zampa then took the wickets of Nkrumah Bonner (0 off three) and Andre McCarthy in consecutive balls in the following over to ram home the Warriors’ advantage, with Tallawahs all-out by the 18th for 100.

Despite the tough batting conditions, it was always going to be a difficult total to defend, with dew already making it hard for bowlers to grip the ball in the first innings.
