The Olympic swimming venue has been evacuated after the discovery of a mysterious package

The aquatics centre for the Rio Games has been reopened following a security scare which forced its evacuation.

Security for the Olympics is on high alert with the games due to start on Saturday morning (Australian time) with officials taking no chances.

It has been reported that an unaccompanied electrician’s toolbox forced the evacuation.

Swim teams have been having their first look at the pool ahead of the competition which starts this weekend and were forced outside along with media as security investigated.

Australia made its first appearance at the pool on Tuesday with the team being put through its paces ahead of their first race on Sunday (Australian time).

Earlier in the week security detonated a backpack with a robot as part of a security test at the Maracana, venue for the opening ceremony.
