Nic Naitanui kicks match-winning goal for West Coast to take victory over GWS

Nic Naitanui, you’ve done it again.

For the second time in his short yet esteemed AFL career, the star ruckman has snatched victory from the jaws of defeat for the West Coast Eagles with a match-winning goal.

Just over three years after his post-siren goal against North Melbourne at Subiaco Oval, Naitanui produced another brilliant, heroic individual effort just seconds before the fulltime buzzer to inspire the Eagles to an upset five-point victory over the GWS Giants at Spotless Stadium.

With eight seconds to go, the Eagles had a stoppage inside their forward 50, Naitanui competed in the ruck contest then won a hard ball on the turf, broke away from Giant Dylan Shiel and snapped a remarkable goal off his left boot to seal victory.

Naitanui was humble when asked about his heroics when interviewed post-match, instead pointing to his side’s ability to fight in the fourth quarter.

“(Eagles coach Adam Simpson) came out at three quarter-time and said ‘attack attack attack, beat them at what they do best’. We did and we were pretty lucky to get away with it in the end,” Naitanui told Fox Footy.

Brisbane Lions great Jonathan Brown was left gobsmacked at the end of the game.

“I can’t believe my eyes. That is one of the most unbelievable finishes to a game you’ll ever see,” Brown said on Fox Footy.

The big former Lion wasn’t the only footy fan left short of breath.
