David Ortiz is pretty familiar with the surroundings of Fenway Park, his home since joining the Boston Red Sox in 2003, and Saturday, the retiring slugger participated in the 1,000th game of his career at the historic baseball site as the Red Sox faced the Kansas City Royals.

Big Papi has played 1,922 games during his 20-year career with Boston, putting him fifth in franchise history in games played behind Carl Yastrzemski (3,308), Dwight Evans (2,505), Ted Williams (2,292), and Jim Rice (2,089).
During his time in Beantown, Ortiz sits among the franchise leaders in numerous categories, including runs scored (1,187), hits (2,046), doubles (517), home runs (475), RBIs (1,503), and extra-base hits (1,008).
