Stephen Curry may be far from home right now, but he still has his eyes on the prize.
The reigning back-to-back league MVP said his Golden State Warriors, coming off winning an NBA record 73 regular-season games and adding a top-3 talent in Kevin Durant this offseason, are only focused on one thing.
“74 (wins) isn’t really a goal,” Curry told reporters in Hong Kong. “If it happens, it happens. All of our energy will be spent on getting ourselves ready for a championship run.
“We want to have a great regular season obviously, we don’t want to have any slip-ups, but I don’t think coming into the season with the goal of 74 is a good focus. It’s about winning a championship.”
The 28-year-old point guard is excited about his new teammates – including Durant, Zaza Pachulia, and David West – and their ability to get acclimated so they can help the Warriors get over the hump, after losing a 3-1 Finals lead to the Cleveland Cavaliers in June.
“I think we’ve added some great character guys that will fit right into our identity and who we are as a team, and there’s only one goal this year – obviously to win a championship, so whatever it takes to make that happen, I’m sure we’ll figure it out,” he added.
