Patrick Reed hacks out of fescue and felll on his backside

Patrick Reed became a Ryder Cup villain in Scotland two years ago when he shushed the galleries at Gleneagles. On Thursday, he caused the fans at the Scottish Open to give a different type of reaction.

They clapped has he (barely) hacked his way out of high fescue. And then they gasped as Reed lost his balance and slid down a hill on the par-5 second at Castle Stuart Golf Links. Check it out:

The fact that there wasn’t more cheering or laughter points to Scottish fans coming to respect Reed’s brazen brand of play. Either way, we can all laugh now since Reed and none of the marshals were hurt.

Reed wound up making bogey on the hole. Despite the dropped shot, emerging from that situation with no injury and no ripped pants has to be considered a minor victory.
