Jarryd Hayne has dropped yet another cryptic clue to his Twitter followers as to where his sporting future lies.

When Fox Sports commentator Andrew Voss suggested Hayne join Melbourne for the remainder of the 2016 season in order to chase an NRL premiership, the cross-code star’s response was intriguing to say the least.

“I don’t think I could do a (Kevin Durant) type switch,” Hayne tweeted

Hayne was referencing the recent NBA switch of basketball star Kevin Durant to the Golden State Warriors.

Durant’s move has been criticised by some, who suggest he’s merely chasing a title.

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg has made it no secret that he wants to see codehopper Hayne back in rugby league.

But the game’s boss says he won’t be opening his predecessor Dave Smith’s famed war chest to lure him back.

Hayne announced his Rio Olympics dream was over on Monday after he did not make the Fiji rugby sevens team.

The former NRL and NFL player is able to sign with a club immediately because he is not a registered rugby league player.

Parramatta are frontrunners to snare him, with his former club in negotiations with Kieran Foran about a possible release that would open up a big chunk of salary cap space.

“We’re certainly not opening up any cash or any of the special funds that have been mentioned before,” Greenberg told Monday Night with Matty Johns.

“The priority is to offer him an opportunity to play in the National Rugby League and to do that, he’ll be playing in the biggest and best competition in sport in this country and abroad if you want to play our game.

“So the offer is absolutely open.”

Greenberg revealed he spoke to Hayne earlier in the year.

“We’ve always made it clear we’d like to see him back,” Greenberg said.

“I actually sat with Jarryd in round one this year at Parramatta Stadium.

“I made a comment to him then we’d like to see him back so that’s only strengthened on today’s news.

“So if and when Jarryd’s prepared to make the decision on the next stage of his career, if he wants to have a discussion with us about the NRL, we’re more than happy to have that discussion.”
