David Ortiz continues to write his name in the history books.
The Boston Red Sox designated hitter became the oldest player in major-league history to record a 30-homer season when the 40-year-old belted a two-run home run in the first inning of Wednesday’s game in Tampa Bay.
Ortiz edged former record holder Darrell Evans with the blast. Ortiz was 40 years, nine months, and six days old when he reached the 30-homer plateau, while Evans was 40 years, three months, and 23 days old.
Not only was it the 30th home run in his final season, it also gave Ortiz 100 RBIs. It’s the 10th time he reached the 30-100 milestone, which moved him past Ted Williams for the most in franchise history.
